In the 18th Century the dances of the French court continued in
popularity in the English court, and these elegant dances, such
as the 'Minuet' and the 'Contredance', always began an evening's
dancing, the older country dances coming at the end of the evening.
In France the dances were incorporated into court masques and operas,
and eventually developed into modern classical ballet.
