Regency

The beginning of the 19th century brought a new simplicity to fashion. The dances enjoyed by Jane Austen's characters in Regency England are light and lively, still incorporating the formality of the minuet and Contredance, and the informality of the country dances, but also seeing the introduction of 'the Waltz', at first considered shocking and forbidden in some circles of society.
